History
Tudhope Cartage Ltd. was founded in January 1945 by Gordon Tudhope of Parry Sound, Ontario. The Fleet consisted of one truck and was dedicated to providing cartage and freight delivery services to CN Railway Express. In the fall of 1945, Gordon's brother Lorne joined the company as a partner and the fleet expanded in size and scope of work. In 1950, a third brother Donald joined the company as a driver, and later became the company's head dispatcher. During the early years, Tudhope Cartage Ltd. hauled a wide variety of commodities including lumber, furniture, livestock, explosives, salt, ice and petroleum.
In 1956, Liquifuels Inc. (now Ultramar Diamond Shamrock) built bulk storage tanks in Parry Sound, Ontario. Through a unique business arrangement, Tudhope Cartage purchased five trucks and five trailers to service the Parry Sound Area. In 1969, Royce Macklaim of Macklaim Construction purchased the company, however, the name Tudhope Cartage Limited remained. In 2006, Tudhope Cartage Limited had been purchased again by Seaboard Harmac Transportation Group and continues to run under the name of Tudhope Cartage Limited.
