Company Position

At Tudhope Cartage Ltd. we believe that Preventative Maintenance enhances Safety and extends the useful life of our fleet. It is Company policy to carry out Preventative Maintenance on all equipment owned or operated by Tudhope Cartage Ltd. according to the laws of the operating authorities within our jurisdictions of travel.

The management of Tudhope Cartage Ltd. approves annually the Preventative Maintenance Program and our management team reviews progress against that program monthly. From an organizational standpoint, we have established a key position to address preventative maintenance across the company and program implementation is the responsibility of our Director, Purchasing & Fleet Operations. Some general duties of this position include:

  • Set policy on Preventative Maintenance Standards.
  • Set policy on qualification for maintenance "Service Partners".
  • Conduct annual audits of Service Partners for compliance of our preventative maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Prepare preventative maintenance schedules for all equipment owned and operated.
  • Coordinate the inspection of all tractors and trailers.
  • Maintain a database of all truck maintenance and inspection records.
  • Make recommendations on equipment utilization and disposal.
  • Serve as liaison to all provincial and federal regulatory agencies.

Fleet Operations personnel attend the quality safety meetings and routinely conducs inspections on all equipment. They have the authority to remove any piece of equipment from operations "on the spot" if found to have mechanical problems.

Defect Reporting

Tudhope Cartage's policy requires all drivers to complete a Pre trip and Post trip inspection and circle check as prescribed in the Company "Trip Inspection Report". This inspection is handed into supervisory staff at the end of each driver's shift and any forms with defects identified are taken immediately along with the defective unit to the designated service centre. The work required is then completed by qualified mechanics and technicians, as per regulation, and the repairs are acknowledged by signature of the attending mechanic or technician. The completed and signed repair form is then filed only after it has been verified that the repair has been completed to the safety standards set by Tudhope Cartage Ltd. and the applicable governing authorities and regulatory agencies.
